FFI – Fatal Familial Insomnia
The idea came from a documentary by National Geography about a very rare disease, FFI – Fatal Familial Insomnia- that causes several damages in the brain of people diagnosed with it. From that, we made some research and find that studies shown that a protein called Kinase A helped to induce sleep in rats. Also, it was known already that the neurotransmitters melatonin and serotonin were related to sleep.
So we gather all the information and had the idea: what would happen if a patient with FFI was treated with protein Kinase A and the neurotransmitters serotonin and melatonin? What would be the histological alterations in his brain?
